American Heart Association Video:
Super Bowl star becomes first male celebrity spokesperson for the AHA:
On Jan. 29, New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree, who made the “history-making” catch at the 2008 Super Bowl, joined other NFL players and American Heart Association President Dr. Timothy Gardner at a press conference in support of Go Red For Women. David’s mother died of heart disease last year [she was only 59!], and he is committed to helping [the AHA] raise awareness about heart disease in women.

News Flash:
A survey of Americans’ well-being, conducted by Gallup in partnership with Healthways and America’s Health Insurance Plans, began in January 2008 and will continue on a daily basis for 25 years. The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index™ has been developed to provide the official measure for health and well-being. It is the most ambitious effort ever undertaken to measure what people believe constitutes a good life in the U.S. Measured sub-indices are life evaluation, work quality, basic access, healthy behavior, physical health, and emotional health.
Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index also ranked congressional districts. These data are a national wake-up call to re-orient our system toward preventive care, wellness, and chronic care management,” said Karen Ignagni, President and CEO of AHIP. “As members of Congress focus on health care reform, these data will serve as an important resource to gauge the true health and well-being of their constituents.”
Where does your district rank out of 435 Congressional Districts?
I found District 22 where I live ranks 91/435. District 14 which is south and southwest of Houston ranks 71 and District 2 which includes the Beaumont area weighs in at 257. Among the best ranking Texas Districts were District 24 along the Dallas/Tarrant County line at 21 and District 6, south of the Dallas Ft.Worth metroplex at 40.

“Change Back!”
Often when people in relationships first start working on themselves and practicing new behaviors, they may be met with a countermove by their partner. Let me give you an example: A woman may have typically asked her husband to stop working so many hours and to spend more time with her. She starts out in a mature fashion and quickly escalates to angry tears saying he never has time for her.
After learning to take more responsibility for her own happiness, she decides to change her behavior. She stops complaining about what he does or doesn’t do and schedules a sitter for the kids so she can go to dinner or a movie once a week with a friend. Her husband is at first pleased as she is no longer nagging him and being so emotional. After a few weeks of this though, she continues to be pleasant and appears to be happy regardless of whether he has time for her or not. He now gets concerned and may even feel “threatened by the new level of assertiveness, separateness, and maturity” his wife is exhibiting. He felt more loved with her crying and nagging. He wants her to “Change Back!”
According to Dr. Harriet Goldhor Lerner, author of The Dance of Anger, some common countermoves we may be accused of are “coldness, disloyalty, selfishness, or disregard for others.” The funny thing is the person making the behavioral changes often expects their partner to not only accept their actions but to even like their change!
This happens both with men and women. Remember behaviors are habits and our partners are accustomed to our habits. However, countermoves are expressions of anxiety and there is “powerful opposition to one member defining a more independent self.” Fear is involved but with practice and possibly some outside help, both people can work to have a more mature relationship. Know this is only a habit and habits can be changed.
