The Oleanders - Holidays

Greetings from LIFESTYLE CHOICES!

 Simple and Present

The holiday season is upon us: a time of family gatherings, home-cooked meals, and generally great expectations for most of us. We have a small home in rural San Leon which is situated on a large lot planted with vast amounts of tropical plants. We call it The Oleanders due to the indigenous oleanders which grow there. It is the perfect retreat to celebrate Thanksgiving! The foliage has grown so much this past summer we can hardly see the hot tub from our porch although it’s only ten feet away. This is good. We absolutely love getting into the hot tub surrounded by our plants, away from the world.

Over the years I have found joy but also stress while celebrating holidays. In retrospect the stress was mostly due to too many expectations of what I’d wanted to happen and then having a different outcome than what I’d envisioned. I decided I needed to create simple get-togethers. [Read more…] about From My Heart- November, 2010

Greetings from LIFESTYLE CHOICES!

Just Practicing

Gosh, I’ve never seen so many people filled with so much anger!  Is it just a fad?  Everywhere I go people are mad and complaining about so many things: our government, immigration, healthcare; you name it.  While I am glad to see complacency disappear, I’m concerned about both the effects this is having on the people who are angry as well as the people surrounding them.  Yes, many of these topics are quite volatile but just how much of your time do you spend thinking about what’s wrong with things and not what’s right?

Have you noticed that people who are happy don’t spend much time commiserating with others?

I go to the gym frequently and one particular fellow I see there is quite interesting.  He works out hard and I mean he works out hard everyday.  But you know what he does while he’s warming up on the bike or when he’s in between machines?  [Read more…] about From My Heart- September, 2010

Vietnam Visit

From My Heart- April, 2010

Greetings from LIFESTYLE CHOICES!

Goals and Contemplations

Last autumn a friend of mine invited my husband and me to travel with him and his wife this spring back to his homeland,Vietnam.  We try to take one good trip every year and it was my time to choose the destination. My husband gamely went along with the idea although he was not his typical exuberant, adventurous self.  I hit upon the idea of incorporating some travel to Thailand while we were in that part of the world and vacationing for maybe a week at one of the islands there in hopes this might entice him with our trip.  My husband is a REAL WATER LOVER.  I mean he’s sailed for years, has taken numerous vacations in the Caribbean, and even has to get in the hot tub every day we’re at our house in San Leon.  When he discovered the islands we were considering were at the same latitude as most of his beloved Caribbean islands, he perked up BIG time! Just a couple of months prior to our vacation, some friends of ours told us we should also consider Siem Reap in Cambodia so we added that country to our itinerary as well.
