Video from ABC News.com http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/video?id=6831383
When Stanford University Medical School decided to address their employees’ high stress levels, they chose HeartMath®’s emWave products to do so. If you’ve ever wondered exactly what kind of device I “hook” you up to when you come to my office for an evaluation for stress reduction, you can see both the handheld device and the software on a PC in this video. These machines are called emWave PSR and emWave PC and are products I utilize as a licensed provider for HeartMath® to teach people how to decrease their stress.
Vitamin D3 News!!!
It has been reported that 40-85% of North Americans don’t get enough Vitamin D. This vitamin has been found to decrease the risk of both breast and colon cancer, helps you maintain a healthy heart, and acts as a deterrent to diabetes. As always ask your nurse practitioner or physician the dosage they recommend. Physicians such as Dr. Andy Weil and Dr. Oz take this vitamin themselves. For more information from Dr. Michael Roizen and Dr. Oz go to http://www.realage.com/srch/RASearch.aspx?Catno=-1&m=6&query=vitamin+d3
Spirituality and Prayer Play Role in Health
Duke University Medical Center, Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in NYC, Scripps Clinic and Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA, as well as other prestigious hospitals participated in a research study with cardiac patients who received intercessory prayer in addition to coronary stenting and found these patients had better clinical outcomes than those treated with standard stenting therapy alone. Research is continuing. For more information on this article please refer to

Book Review from Gwen Brehm @ Center for Mind Body Health
Dr. James Gordon, a major leader in mind, body, and health issues, in his latest book, Unstuck, details the multiple methods that help individuals recover from depression and anxiety, using more natural means of recovery rather than antidepressants or anti‐ anxiety medication. His suggestions of supplements, changes in diet, working with a “guide” and changing activity levels, priorities, and thought processes are outlined and explained in great detail for the reader. People can purchase this book, start working on their own and do as much as possible to help themselves in overall lifestyle changes. So basically this is an all‐in‐one homework book plus some! If you are looking for a book that will propel you forward in your life, this is the one for you. This book gets a definite “thumbs up” from me.
Emotional Fitness
From Kim Allen at HeartMath®:
We all know exercise is an important part of a healthy life style. To stay – or get -fit and trim, a lot of us are willing to spend a lot of money and precious time joining a health club going to spinning classes or buying the latest home gym equipment. But few realize the ‘you lose what you don’t use’ rule applies to emotional as well as physical fitness.
Here’s a workout schedule for improving your emotional fitness:
- Find one thing to appreciate about a tough situation. It could be worse!
- Don’t let anger or resentment live rent free in your brain; practice forgiveness.
- Find joy in the process, whatever the outcome.
- Sincerely listen with care instead of trying to ‘fix it’. Most people simply want to be heard!
- Move beyond rigid mind-sets and learn to be more adaptable and flexible. You could be wrong!
- Be open to the unpredictable nature of people and life.
And remember, repetition builds stronger emotional muscles. For more information regarding HeartMath, go to www.heartmath.org
“Alternative Medicine Is Mainstream” according to a January 9,2009 article published in the Wall Street Journal by Drs. Deepak Chopra, Dean Ornish, Rustrum Roy, and Andrew Weil. “Many people tend to think of breakthroughs in medicine as a new drug, laser or high-tech surgical procedure. They often have a hard time believing that the simple choices that we make in our lifestyle — what we eat, how we respond to stress, whether or not we smoke cigarettes, how much exercise we get, and the quality of our relationships and social support — can be as powerful as drugs and surgery. But they often are. And in many instances, they’re even more powerful.”
“These studies [for Alternative Medicine] often used high-tech, state-of-the-art measures to prove the power of simple, low-tech, and low-cost interventions. Integrative medicine approaches such as plant-based diets, yoga, meditation and psychosocial support may stop or even reverse the progression of coronary heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, prostate cancer, The INTERHEART study, published in September 2004 in The Lancet, followed 30,000 men and women on six continents and found that changing lifestyle could prevent at least 90% of all heart disease .obesity, hypercholesterolemia and other chronic conditions.”
