Scientists Use Twitter to Predict Spread of an Infectious Disease

From RWJ Foundation:  “A new study suggests that information shared via Twitter can be used to predict the extent and severity of infectious disease outbreaks like the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. Philip Polgreen, M.D., and his colleagues at the University of Iowa, collected and analyzed public tweets relating to the 2009 H1N1 outbreak to see if they could track the spread of H1N1 more rapidly than current methods. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Generally from January until mid-February the gym is fairly crowded and then the crowd falls off their New Year’s resolutions and life becomes normal again.  Oprah admitted all the things she vowed to do last year, she didn’t:  more balance and time, daily workout, etc.  After meeting Charla Nash, the woman who was violently attacked by a 200 lb. chimpanzee last February, and hearing her story, she stated in her magazine, “No more excuses.”

For years I didn’t make New Year’s resolutions.  I thought they were “dumb.”  However, what I realized was I was setting goals and accomplishing many of them but wouldn’t it be better if I actually wrote them down so I could refer to them as the years passed?  Many of us are quick to judge ourselves harshly but what I’ve learned is we’re human and we just need to practice.  [Read more…] about From My Heart- January, 2010

Michael Jackson

Whether you liked Michael Jackson or not, he had a very large presence in our world and hopefully his death will not have been in vain.  What I’m speaking about is the possibility of his having had a prescription drug addiction.  This is one of my biggest concerns today as well as one of my pet peeves within the healthcare community.
